Board Policies

introduction

The South Dakota Board of Technical Education (BOTE) may adopt policies to govern its processes and employees.

Board policies are distinct from administrative rules, statutes, or constitutional provisions. Board policies are adopted, modified, or repealed at the discretion of the BOTE. Policies operate under and within the grants of authority issued by statute and, when applicable, in concert with administrative rule. Policies are subordinate to administrative rules, statutes, and constitutional provisions.

In general, Board policies allow the BOTE to clarify processes, set expectations, and provide transparency. Because policies are adopted, modified, and repealed at the Board-level, policies allow the BOTE to be nimble and responsive to changed circumstances.

Board policies are organized into the four series found below. Policy series are topical categories or themes in which policies fall under.
